uMgeni Park residents robbed of sleep yet again

Some residents say the music went on till 4am on Sunday morning.

IT was another sleepless night for uMgeni Park residents who were kept awake well after 4pm on Sunday morning with the after parties of one of Durban’s biggest events, the Vodacom Durban July. Thousands also made their way to the fifth Fact Durban Rocks concert which was held at Moses Mabhida’s People’s Park adding to the cacophony of noise.

The excessively loud music irked hundreds of residents, some of whom took to Facebook to voice their anger. One resident, who did not want to be named, said she could hear the music in her Browns Drift Road home as clear as day.

“I understand that people want to have fun, but there are by-laws that clearly state no loud music after midnight. I can only imagine what resident’s in Morningside must have gone through. Earlier this week, we reported two noise complaints to the Metro Police and nothing was done. This isn’t the first time we’ve been affected,” she said.

Earlier in the week Brian Daish, of the uMgeni Park CPF demanded answers from Metro Police, who, he says, failed to act against noisy revellers who robbed residents of their sleep. He captured a video from the stadium showing how loud the music was.
