Silver lining for starving dog, Tequila

New lease on life for starving dog says animal rescue organisation.

THERE is a silver lining for the severely starved dog who was rescued by Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) two weeks ago. At the time of her rescue, Tequila, was ‘the worst case of starvation’ the organisation had ever come across. She was found chained to a tree and had to eat her own faeces in order not to starve. Neeri Naidoo from PACT said the pooch is being fostered at an animal haven in Ballito.

“Unfortunately Tequila’s fosters didn’t work out, but luckily Animally Haven made some space for her. Gianna Scoulelis who runs the haven has been fantastic is looking after her. Eurika Erasmus, volunteered to drive her from kennels in Pietermaritzburg to Ballito. With her previous fosters, Tequila suffered from separation anxiety and abandonment issues and she was overpowering the owner and her pets.

“She has picked up a lot of weight. We were so worried about her spending time in kennels and going backwards after all the progress we’ve made for her. She still needs a home but we are hopeful there will be a positive ending to her story. She just wants to be hugged and loved. She has puppy like qualities and she’s able to eat knowing she’ll always be fed.” she said.

Naidoo again thanked readers who donated money towards Tequila’s vet bill after reading the Northglen News article.

“We raised more than R3 000 for her vet bills and care. It’s so heartwarming to see such an awesome response. Since her ordeal,” Naidoo said.
