No accounts opened for Nkandla repayments
The Presidency warns of a scam asking people to help Zuma #PayBackTheMoney.
CRIMINALS have taken advantage of the Treasury’s submission to the Constitutional Court on Monday which ordered President Jacob Zuma to pay back a little more than R7.8-million for non-security upgrades at his Nkandla home.
The Presidency has warned residents about scams on social media where people are asked to deposit money into bank accounts in support of President Zuma.
“Such requests have fraudulently been made in light of the submission of the Nkandla homestead non-security upgrades report to the Constitutional Court by the National Treasury. No accounts have been opened for this purpose and no request has been made for members of the public to contribute,” said the Presidency.
The National Treasury was ordered, by the Constitutional Court in March, to calculate a reasonable cost of the non-security upgrades to President Zuma’s Nkandla home.
The non-security upgrades, which were mentioned in Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s Secure in Comfort report, included the swimming pool, chicken run, kraal and the amphitheatre.
