FRUSTRATION over loud music from concerts and clubs in and around the Moses Mabhida Stadium and Blue Lagoon precinct is irking uMgeni Park residents. They say the excessively high noise levels keep them awake at night.
On Sunday, residents were kept awake by music from a local restaurant near the soccer stadium. According to Brian Daish, chairman of the Community Policing Forum (sector four – Greenwood Park), the latest violation is another of a string of incidents in the past few years.
He is also demanding answers from Metro Police, who, he says, failed to act against noisy revellers who robbed them of sleep. Daish added he had received no less than 12 complaints from residents in other parts of the uMgeni area who were also affected.
“It felt like the music was right outside my house. There was no improvement in the noise levels so I undertook once again to go there and see if any action on behalf of Metro Police had been taken. I actually had to drive to the stadium and tell them to turn it down. It was between midnight and 4am in the morning, which is ridiculous.
“There were vehicles speeding up and down Isaiah Ntshangase Road with total disregard for the speed limit, causing a danger to the public. SAPS was also contacted and there was no response. The noise levels emanating from the establishment were at unacceptable levels,” he said.
Daish said he was dismayed that a lack of by-law enforcement and criminal behaviour is being played out at such an iconic venue of the city.
