KZN blood stocks run low

The school holidays and the winter flu have resulted in a decrease in blood donations.

LIFE saving blood stocks across the KwaZulu-Natal, including Durban North, Pinetown, Pietermaritzburg, and Durban are currently running critically low, said the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) yesterday.

The public is urged to visit their local clinics to make a donation.

According to the SANBS, donating one unit of blood can save the lives of three people.

Sr Joy Pires of the Durban North Blood Donor Clinic said the school holidays and an increase in flu during the winter season limited their blood donations this time of the year.
