14 arrested for drunk driving

One person was also arrested for possession of the recreational drug, cocaine.

POLICE recently carried out several roadblocks and stop-and-search initiatives in the Greenwood Park policing precinct. Station spokesman, W/O Leon Audh, confirmed that 14 people were arrested for driving under the influence.

One person was also arrested for the possession of cocaine. According to Audh, authorities searched 160 vehicles and 240 people during the course of the operations.

“We assure the public that sting operations such as these will be held randomly and we are serious about reducing crime in our area so that our community can be safer,” he said.

In May this year, six people were arrested for drunk driving on the M41 going towards uMhlanga in a joint operation between the Durban North SAPS and the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI). One driver who was arrested for drunk driving threw his keys into the bushes in the hopes of avoiding prosecution confirmed, Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.
