Spiritual fundraising fair set for Durban North

Join the Durban North Neighbours Rescue Fund for its holistic and spiritual fundraising fair.

IN an effort to continue its animal rescue operations, the Durban North Neighbours Rescue Fund will be hosting a holistic and spiritual fundraising fair on 18 June. All the proceeds will be used to treat, care for and sterilise rescued animals.

The organisation has been involved in hundreds of animal rescues and rehabilitations in recent months. Sebastian, Sasha and Julia are the latest ‘underdogs’ to have gotten a second chance through the non-profit organisation. Sasha was found in a box dumped on the side of the road in Amanzimtoti, while Julia was rescued by Durban North snake man, Jason Arnold, in Phoenix.

According to founder of the Durban North Neighbours Facebook group, Kerry Haylett, Julia was a limp ‘rag doll’ when she was brought into their care. She suffered from severe mange and parvo, and it took R15 000 to nurse her back to health. They have both found loving homes.

Sebastian, a husky and kelpie-cross, was abandoned by his owner in Broadway and is still in need of a home. “He is a special boy and needs a patient and loving owner,” she said.

“Through generous donations we are able to give animals like these a second chance. Not all organisations have the resources and time to help some of these neglected animals,” added Haylett. The NPO hopes to raise R10 000 on the day.

The animal activist said in addition to fundraising efforts, the aim of the fair was also to unite various animal rescue organisations that are operating in the Durban North area.

“We want to show Durban North that we can work together towards a common goal. It will be a meet-and-greet where the public will be able to put faces to the names and gain information on the organisations, such as Feeding the Furballs, The Dachshund Haven, Creature Care, Cats of Durban, The Durban & Coast SPCA and Monkey Helpline,” she said.

  • Entrance is free. Contact aaces2016@gmail.com. The fair will be held at the Imbokoda Conference Centre in La Lucia from 9am to 3pm.
