Man survives shooting

When the victim tried to flee, the suspect opened fire.

A MAN was left in a critical condition after suspects opened fire on him in Effingham Heights on Monday evening.

According to W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park SAPS, the victim said he was walking along Ardrossan Road when three suspects driving a Mercedes accosted him.

The victim alleged that one of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle, asking for assistance. Audh said the situation turned violent when the victim noticed that the same suspect was carrying a gun.

Fearing for his safety, the victim immediately began to flee, however, the suspect started shooting at the victim. One of the bullets struck him in the right leg.

The suspects are believed to have fled the scene shortly after. Audh confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened at the station.

An appeal has been made for any eye-witnesses or community members who might have information pertaining to case to contact the investigating officer, Det/Sgt Makhanya, on 073 418 3135.
