Crusaders Running Club give back to LIV

Vibrancy, bright colours and all-round enthusiasm were part and parcel of the Deliotte Challenge recently.

MOST runners would argue that the best part of the Deliotte Challenge is the finish, but runners also enjoy vibrant water tables along the route where they can receive refreshments and hopefully a few friendly smiles. According to runners who have run all over the world, the Deloitte Challenge doesn’t have to stand back for anyone in this regard. Not only is it an extremely well organised event but also boasts some of the very best water tables that make a runner’s day a bit easier and more memorable.

The event is unique in KZN as cyclists and runners have the privilege of sharing the same route. In addition to their entry fee, participants in the Deloitte Challenge are invited to donate to LIV Village in KZN, the nominated Deloitte charity.

Runners had smiles on their faces at the end of the race.

Crusaders Running Club, winners of the prize for Best Water Table on the marathon route in 2015, decided to do things a little differently this year as part of their title defence. Gavin Ross of the club explained that Deloitte kindly offer a R10 000 prize for the best water table every year.

Being known as a fairly social club, with their unmistakable colours of bright yellow and red, the team got stuck in with their now legendary thirsty enthusiasm and once again created a water table that offered the runners not only ice-cold water and coke but a real lift in their spirits, which is always much needed at the business end of a road race.

The Crusaders Running Club won R10 000 in the Deloitte Challenge recently for the best water table. They also donated a number of tyre chairs made specifically for the event to LIV Village.

“Our water table was, by all accounts, epic. The best Water Table prize was also been awarded to the club. These things don’t just happen on their own. Without the input of individuals who give up their valuable time and put in a massive effort prior to the day and at the actual event, we would have nothing. We have managed to create a hugely popular brand of fellowship at our club and this manifests itself in the dedication of the members and even their non-running friends,” he said.
