Meet your new Greenwood Park sector commanders

The Greenwood Park SAPS has implemented a new form of policing – referred to as 'sector policing'.

IN an effort to improve its crime-fighting capabilities, Greenwood Park SAPS has implemented a new form of policing – referred to as ‘sector policing’.

The Greenwood Park Station Commander Col Mbongeni Mngadi has divided the station’s precinct into three sectors, which have been assigned to three sector commanders.

According to W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the station, the sector commanders are responsible for monitoring the crime in their respective sectors.

Each sector has been assigned designated units. Those units, said Audh, will patrol only that sector day and night. The aim of the initiative, he said, was not only to improve the response time, but also to facilitate community communication.

“With patrollers constantly in the area it has sped up the response time significantly. We have also begun to receive more useful information coming through from the community, because the sector commanders are now able to work hand in hand with the CPF officials as well as the community,” he said.

Since its launch three months ago, Audh said the sector commanders have been able to identify problem areas, draw up relevant operational plans and mobilise key role players more effectively.

Cst Commet Cele has been assigned to sector one (Avoca Hills and Quarry Heights), sector two (Avoca, Sea Cow Lake, Greenwood Park, Effingham, Springfield and Kenville) is being managed by W/O Linx Govender, while the third sector has been entrusted to Cst Cebile Kader (uMgeni Park, Rosehill, Glen Anil, Glenhills and Redhill).

The spokesman said in the future they hoped to place the units’ contact numbers on the vehicles so that the public will be able to contact the patrollers directly – ultimately increasing the response time even more.
