Fake municipal workers thwarted in home robbery

The gang, posing as meter inspectors, attempted to break into a Glen Anil home.

A GANG of five men posing as municipal workers tried to break into a home on Pidgeonwood Close yesterday. According to W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the men, who were dressed in uniform, derailed the driveway gate and attempted to break into the home via the front door.

One of the household members spotted the suspects and immediately pressed the panic alarm, causing the robbers to flee.

The men made their escape after jumping into a grey BMW with a NUR number plate, said Audh. He said the vehicle was also fitted with a police light.

The men were reportedly dressed in pink golf shirts with the municipality emblem, as well as blue overall pants.

“They went around the area posing as if they were inspecting water meters, but in actual fact they were monitoring vulnerable homes that they could break into,” explained Audh.

Police have appealed to the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the Greenwood Park station on 031 571 6512/3/4.
