Durban North SAPS bids adieu to loyal officers

Durban North SAPS honours three longstanding police officers.

THREE police officers with more than 100 years of experience between them have left the Durban North SAPS.
Det W/O Felix Masango (32 years of service) and W/O Bhekumuzi Ngcobo (35 years of service) have decided to call time on their sterling careers, while Lt Anush Ramdass (35 years of service), is leaving the local station to take up a post at the Ntuzuma Police Station.

Northglen News caught up with the trio recently as the Durban North police station hosted a braai in the members’ honour.

Masango, who has arrested several violent criminals in his career, said a career in policing was always something he wanted.

“Being a police officer was all I ever wanted to be. At school I was part of the Scouts and discipline and hard work was continuously drilled into me. One day we had a talk by the local police at our station and I just knew that was going to be my career, because they shared so many qualities with what I wanted in my life. I’m definitely going to miss the station and the people,” Masango said.

Ngcobo, who echoed Masango’s sentiments, said he would now be focusing on his farm in Ndwedwe.

“My wife is very happy that I’m coming home. I have no doubt it will be a quieter life. I’ve been with the Durban North SAPS from the beginning of my career so it’s really hard saying goodbye. The most important thing I’ve learned is your happiness with your job depends on your attitude. You need to work as a team but also realise that people are not meant to like you at work, if a job has to be done, it must be done,” Ngcobo said.

Ramdass said he thought he would retire at the station but being promoted was an opportunity he couldn’t miss.

“I think the station is in good hands and there’s a great spirit within the ranks and I’m sure the station will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he said.

Both Lt Raymond Deokaran (spokesman) and Col Gopaul Naidoo (station commander) praised the members for their invaluable service to the station.
