Screaming daughter distracts thief

The housebreaker was also suspected of attempting to break into a property in Campbell Drive.

A MAN who tried to steal cell phone out of an open window of a Portland Drive home in uMhlanga on Saturday was caught on the M4 after the homeowner’s daughter raised the alarm.

According to Blue Security’s Brian Jackson, the housebreaker fled the scene but was caught by reaction officers by the time he reached the busy freeway.

“The resident’s daughter allegedly saw the suspect stick his hand through an open window to try and grab her cell phone. She shouted at him and he turned and fled from the property,” he said.

“Our officer responded to the scene and took a description of the suspect from the residents and patrolled the area, eventually tracking him down on the M4 freeway, where he had fled on foot,” he said.

“The residents positively identified the suspect and he was handed over to the Durban North SAPS. He is also suspected of attempting to break into a property in Campbell Drive recently, “ he said.
