Did you witness this hit-and-run near Blue Lagoon?

Two people were killed and a third seriously injured when a vehicle slammed into the men, who were changing a tyre.

A HIT-and-run accident, which occurred near Blue Lagoon on Wednesday night, claimed the lives of two Durbanites – Sumeer Maharaj and his friend,  Praveen Mahabir. It is believed that the 26-year-old Maharaj was helping Mahabir and a second friend, Jumaid Singh, to change a flat tyre when they were struck by a car.

They were reportedly stationary in the yellow lane just before the Blue Lagoon on-ramp heading towards uMhlanga when tragedy struck.

According to a close friend, Kassandra Padayachee, Sumeer died instantly while his friend succumbed to his extensive injuries at 1am this morning. Jumaid survived the harrowing incident, suffering only a few broken bones. Padayachee’s plea for help has been shared numerous times on Facebook.

Friends and family of the men have made a desperate plea to any witnesses to come forward following the incident. “Despite contacting various media entities and sharing an appeal on social media, there have been no leads,” said Padayachee.
