Cops cripple crime in Greenwood Park

A series of specialised intelligence-driven operations have led to several successful arrests and a notable dip in crime, said police.

AUTHORITIES have noted a significant decrease in crime in the Greenwood Park policing precinct, said station representative, Leon Audh.

According to Audh, specialised intelligence-driven operations in the form of roadblocks and surveillance projects have led to the recent reduction in crime.

“Our CPF chairperson and sub-forum chairpeople are extremely active and continually enlighten community members regarding safety tips on how to prevent crime. The SAPS has also implemented sector policing, whereby a permanent vehicle patrols a particular sector only and thus reduces the response time to a scene of crime in that respective sector. We have also placed sector managers in each sector who manage these vehicles,” he said.

“Members carried out operations in various areas of Greenwood Park this weekend, which netted numerous arrests and recoveries. A total of 15 suspects were arrested for being in possession of dagga and 13 illegal immigrants were also arrested. Drunken drivers and those being in possession of dangerous weapons were also apprehended in the successful operation. Dagga and three bicycles were recovered,” added Audh.

Members of the public have been urged to contact the police should they have any information that could assist in the prevention of crime on 031 571 6512/3/4.
