Bursting pipes anger La Lucia residents

Residents say they have had to put up with at least eight pipe bursts along William Campbell Drive.

A LA LUCIA family is fed up with pipes constantly bursting along William Campbell Drive. According to the homeowner, Ahmed Khalil, they have suffered through at least eight of these bursts in recent months.

On Friday afternoon the family arrived at home only to discover that another burst pipe, from the corner of William Campbell Drive and Armstrong Avenue, had caused massive flooding into their pool.

In addition to the loss of hundreds of litres of precious water, Khalil said he was concerned about water usage levies that he might have to pay.

“In addition to water pipes there have also been at least three water meters bursting along this road, the latest of which took place two days ago. My water bills have ranged from R8 000 to R12 000 because of this,” he said.

Khalil said with the most recent meter burst they waited eight hours for the Municipality to respond to the report.

“In the past my garage and my home have been flooded. After we report it they only come and fix a small portion of the pipes and then soon another section of pipes burst,” said the irate resident.
