Elderly couple robbed on uMhlanga Beach

The suspect struck an elderly woman in the robbery near the uMhlanga Lagoon.

AN elderly couple were robbed on uMhlanga Beach, near the lagoon on Thursday morning by a man in a wet suit. According to Dewet Geldenhuys of the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), the man also struck the elderly woman on the head when she tried to resist the robber.

“The man robbed the couple as they were walking towards the Lagoon on the beach of their bag containing their cell phones and wallet and some other goods. He approached them, dressed in a wet suit and demanded the pouch, when the elderly lady resisted he hit her on her head and took the pouch. He then fled into the bushes. UIP and Enforce with CPF members did a thorough search of the area up to Choppers Town with no result. The jacket of the suspect was recovered that he wore over the wet suit,” he said.

The incident follows a similar robbery of a couple in February also on uMhlanga Beach.
