R10 000 dagga seized in uMhlanga

The bust follows a similar arrest in Newport Avenue last month.

ANOTHER successful drug bust was secured by the Durban North SAPS in uMhlanga yesterday evening. Police arrested an alleged dealer with 114 kilograms of dagga, worth an estimated street value of R10 000, said Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station.

“At around 5pm yesterday, police were patrolling uMhlanga and while driving along McCausland Crescent, they observed a male acting suspiciously. When they stopped and searched the suspect they found the drugs on him,” he said.

Some of the dagga was found in plastic bags while some was wrapped in newspaper as well as rolled into ‘cigarettes’, added Deokaran.

“The small packets can sell from R50, while the ‘cigarettes’ are sold at R25 each,” he said.

At the end of last month, the station secured a similar arrest, where a security guard was arrested with over R15 000 worth of dagga on Newport Avenue in Glenashley. A 9mm pistol was also found in his possession.

“We are proud of our members’ efforts to keep drugs off the street,” said Deokaran.
