Pit bull walk set to stomp out common misconceptions

For the walk set on 23 April, the public has been invited to take along their precious pooches to enjoy a day of fun in the sun - while raising awareness for pit bull terriers.

DURBAN North resident, Nicole Linden, has not lost sight or momentum in her efforts to raise positive awareness regarding the misunderstood and chastised breed of pit bull terriers. Recently, she organised a pit bull awareness walk along the Durban Beachfront to do just that.

Through her own beloved pit bull, Rocky, she is set on showing people that not all pit bulls are vicious guard dogs. “I definitely believe that an animal’s temperament has a lot to do with how they are raised. Pit bulls are not naturally aggressive, they are actually very loyal and lovable, and Rocky is testament to this,” she said.

As one of her first efforts, the 25-year-old animal-lover took Rocky to the Villa Sunfield Home in Durban North, where the duo was an instant hit among the residents. Linden said she planned to continue visiting other old age and children’s homes in the area.

For the walk set on 23 April, Linden encouraged the public to take along their precious pooches to enjoy a day of fun in the sun. All breeds are welcome.

“We have received amazing support, with over a 190 people showing interest. I have also received lots of messages from the public thanking me for caring about the breed and trying to make a change. When I started the cause I never thought that it would get this big,” said an elated Linden.

Members of the public are urged to meet at Circus Circus at 8am. Participants will then walk along the beach towards uShaka Marine World and back. Water stops will be provided along the way. For more information, visit the Facebook page, Pitbull Awareness Walk – KZN.
