Armed men attack security guard

Authorities later pursued a suspicious individual along the N2, but in his attempt to flee the man jumped off a bridge to his death.

A GROUP of armed men reportedly attacked a security guard at a premises in Riverhorse Valley in the early hours of Friday morning. Authorities later pursued a man matching the description of one of the suspects along the N2, but in his attempt to flee the man jumped off a bridge to his death.

According to Kyle van Reenen, Marshall Security spokesman, the guard sustained head lacerations during the assault.  The men are said to have attacked the guard as they tried to force their way onto the site.

“An extensive search of the property was conducted, however the suspects could not be located. It is believed that they fled in the direction of the highway,” he said.

Van Reenen confirmed that the victim was treated by Netcare911 paramedics and the scene handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS for investigation.

An hour after the incident, while patrolling the N2, the reaction officers spotted a fellow security company, Enforce Security, pursuing a suspect.

The patrollers gave chase and attempted to assist with the arrest.

“Realising the officers were gaining on him and the reality of his probable arrest, the suspect decided to jump off a bridge to a dense bush area below,” said Van Reenen.
