Religious group targets Durban North school

Controversial religious material, said to be linked to the ISIS group, was reportedly distributed at the school.

AUTHORITIES were alerted yesterday to a man allegedly distributing pro-radicalist material at a boys’ school in Durban North.

The DVDs and pamphlets handed out to pupils at the school are said to be linked to The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) organisation.

Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said they received the information via a local neighbourhood social media group.

“Our patrollers are on high alert and have been instructed to keep an eye out for any suspicious individuals in the vicinity of the school,” he added.

However, the man behind the distribution of the material, Yousuf Deedat, said the purpose behind the material was to ‘educate and stimulate a thinking mind’.

Lt Raymond Deokaran of the Durban North SAPS said he was aware of the incident.
