THERE was plenty of camaraderie and spirit on the main field at Danville Sports Ground as Virignia United Football Club (VUFC) hosted Green Community United from Dubai. A touching gesture at the final whistle both teams showed what football was all about. VUFC players lined up in a row, bowed to their opponents and thanked them for the game.
The game ended with a massive win for the team from the United Arab Emirates but the chairman of Virginia, Mark Ridsdale, said the final score was inconsequential.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for our boys to play an international side. They have offered to host us if we ever travel up to the UAE which is great. I thought my boys played with a lot of heart, many of the kids in the Green Community squad were older than my boys. The score to me in the end didn’t matter, it was more a way to kick-start our season but also play a game with camaraderie and community spirit.
“We’d just like to thank Simon Morris and his team for their time. He runs a football league called, Green Community United, in Dubai, and has been living at LIV Village on the North Coast and also helps out the children at the Village,” Ridsdale said.
