uMhlanga family appeals for help to find their son

Dale Roodt suffers from psychotic episodes and his family is concerned that his condition may worsen if he is not found.

AN UMHLANGA family has made an emotional appeal for help from residents in and around Durban to look out for their son, who went missing this morning. Dale Roodt was last seen in the Durban North area near Mackeurtan Avenue, wearing a scarf and two moon boots. According to his mother, Lynette, her son suffers from psychotic episodes.

She said the family was beside themselves with worry because of their son’s condition. He was reportedly seen in Westville earlier today by an estate agent, but Lynette said she’s not sure if it was her son.

“We are so worried for his safety. He has no money and no cell phone. I just don’t know where he has gone to. He has tried this before but he has never been away from home this long. Three years ago, his drink was spiked and it caused him to have these psychotic episodes.

“He tried to go to the Durban North police station to open a protection order against my husband because he tried to stop him when Dale tried to leave. The officers at the station did not know he was missing and they told him he couldn’t do that and he left quite agitated and threatened to go to Verulam SAPS to open a case. I’m so grateful for all the help we’ve received so far from the community of Durban North and uMhlanga. I just want him to be safe and to be found,” she said.

Lynette added she was concerned that if Dale isn’t admitted to a psychiatric ward soon, his psychotic episodes may worsen.

“In my heart, I know we’ll find him, but if anyone sees him, please contact me or my husband.”

If you spot Dale, contact his mother, Lynette, on 082 447 5265 or Johan on 082 774 1026.
