World Record attempt gains momentum

Become part of a Guinness World Record to raise funds for CHOC.

A GROUP of local residents are attempting to set a Guinness World Record in April while also raising funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC). The group, which is attempting to raise funds for charity, will be playing a 36-hour action cricket marathon called The East Coast Challenge at the Action Sports Centre on Rinaldo Road, and has already raised R22 768 through booked cricket slots and individual team donations.

“We’ve done incredibly well to get this far and have received amazing support from the locals, but we are down to the final hurdle before the 36-hour action cricket marathon kicks off and we have just seven more slots to fill to help us smash the current world record and meet our fundraising target,” appealed Nick Ferreira, captain of the East Coast Eagles at the Action Sports Centre in Durban North on 9 and 10 April.

“Not only have we recruited local friends and family to participate in the challenge and help raise funds, but there are even three players who are flying in from Poland, Korea and the UK to compete in this cricket marathon. Now all we need is some of the local corporates or even groups of friends to go online and help us fill up the last seven playing slots so we can reach our goal and help a really worthy cause. Having spent some time at the CHOC home meeting some of the children and mothers, it has given me and my team the boost and focus we need to break this action cricket record and meet our ambitious target,” said Ferreira.

For more information about how you can get involved in this event, e-mail info@eastcoastchallenge.co.za or to view and book the available remaining slots, visit https://eastcoastchallenge.co.za/challenge/.
