Police crack down on Polo thefts

Following the recent spike in VW Polo thefts police have made a successful arrest.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS made a breakthrough last night when they recovered a stolen VW Polo in Khazabela Village, near Greewood Park. This comes after a spike in the number of car thefts in the Durban North area in recent weeks.

According to W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the station, authorities have noted that criminals have also been increasingly using VW Polos during house robberies in the Greenwood Park and surrounding areas.

The successful recovery comes after police spotted a suspicious vehicle while patrolling the area. Audh said police also managed to arrest two suspects at the scene.

“The members stopped the vehicle and proceeded to search the two occupants and the vehicle. Upon doing an ownership check on the vehicle it was confirmed that the vehicle was in fact stolen,” he said.

Last week the Northglen News reported an increase in vehicle thefts involving VW Polos, Toyota Hilux and Fortuners.

Lt Raymond Deokaran, of the Durban North SAPS said they suspect a syndicate was operating in the area.
