Trio shines in trips competition

We catch up with Northlands Bowling Club trio after an impressive win at the Port Natal Trips competition.

NORTHLANDS Bowling Club members – Jill Buzzard, Maria Dreyer and Jenny Robinson, recently won the Port Natal Ladies’ Trips title after beating Amazimtoti Bowling Club in the finals of the bowls tournament. The trio won all their games in the competition, which was held at the Park Hills Bowling Club.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to win it. We had said in the beginning we win as a team and we lose as a team, but our goal was to win it. It was a great all-round performance from the team and I’m just delighted we were able to play so well on the day,” Buzzard said.

Dreyer, who is a former silver medal winner in the SA National Bowls competition and is a former KZN pairs champion (partnering with Buzzard) said she was thrilled with the win.

“For the past four years I’ve ended as runner-up, and this year I wanted to change all of that. It means so much to me, especially the badge, which is something I’ve coveted. This was a team effort and I’m very proud of the them,” she said.

Dreyer will now represent the Port Natal A side in an inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg later this year.

Jenny Robinson, who has been a member of the Northlands BC for the past five years, said she too was thrilled with the win.

“That whole day is a blur. It was my first Port Natal Trips Competition and I enjoyed every minute of it. We had such a brilliant team and we all supported each other, which is always important in a team competition. It’s mind-boggling,” she said.
