M4 horror crash leaves 3 injured

The driver and the passenger were both flung out of the car.

THREE people were injured, two critically so, in a high speed collision on the M4 Ruth First Highway on Sunday night.

According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen paramedics arrived on the scene on the Durban North highway in the vicinity of Virginia, shortly after 11.30pm, to find a vehicle had overturned coming to a rest on its roof.

“The rear passenger, a 24 year old male was pinned under the vehicle with the driver, also ejected from the vehicle. Both men were found to be in a critical condition.

“A call was made for the assistance of Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioners who assisted to stabilize them. Once stabilized, both men were placed on to mechanical ventilators and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital,” he said.

Van Reenen added a third occupant of the vehicle, a female, believed to be in her twenties, sustained moderate injuries only and was treated and stabilized on scene before being taken through to hospital for further care.

“Reports from the scene indicate the driver of the vehicle lost control at high speed on the north bound carriage way, overturning and flipping several times, before coming to a rest on the centre median, however the exact facts are not known at present,” he said.
