10 nabbed for drunk driving on M41

The Durban North SAPS has warned there will be more roadblocks during the upcoming Easter weekend.

A TOTAL of 10 drivers were fined and arrested for drunk driving in a roadblock on the M41 going towards Gateway on Friday night. The roadblock was organised by the Durban North SAPS and the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).

Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said there would be more roadblocks during the Easter break.

“We’ve seen a number of accidents on the M41 and M4. A high number of accidents on these roads are related to drunk driving. Research has shown that high police visibility can reduce drunk driving fatalities.

“We have taken a zero tolerance approach to drunk driving and anybody caught will be prosecuted. There will be more roadblocks this year and particularly on the Easter weekend,” he said.

In February, 20 people were arrested and fined for drunk driving.
