Knights topple George Campbell in season opener

Northwood School get season off to impressive start.

NORTHWOOD’S first team got their rugby season off to the perfect start, beating George Campbell 36-16 at home. The game started off slowly for Northwood School’s first XV with George Campbell looking the more threatening.

Despite this, Northwood got first points on the board through the boot of flyhalf, Robin Weersma.

The Dutch-born native looked very promising with his goal-kicking in the opening game of the season and will no doubt be a great weapon to have in the arsenal this year.

George Campbell was very tenacious throughout the first half, however Northwood managed to secure a comfortable 24-6 lead at the half-time whistle.

Coming into the second half, George Campbell turned it on and worked a penalty for themselves, which was duly converted.
However, Northwood continued to dominate up front with scrums and lineouts going very well due to both props (Gugu Nelani and Ngoni Moyo) being in their second year and hooker and captain, Nthuthuko Mthembu, currently in his third year.

George Campbell managed to get a try of their own but it was the Knights of Durban North who secured the game, outscoring the opponents.
