Happy ever after for Glen Anil rescues

The four emaciated dogs dumped in Glen Anil two months ago have finally found their forever homes.

IT has been two months since local residents rescued four neglected dogs from North Coast Road in Glen Anil. At the time, the dogs were extremely emaciated, terrified and covered in mange. Their rescuers suspected that they were dumped on the roadside and left for dead.

Now, however, all four – Lucy, Gunner, Ziggy and Zoey – are not only making a full recovery, but have found loving homes.

The Northglen News recently caught up with Troy Browne, the new owner of Lucy, the Boerbull, who, along with Gunner, had to be rushed to the Ashburne Veterinary Clinic after the lengthy rescue. They were the weakest of the group.

The Waterfall resident and his wife, Robyn, were the first to spot the dogs on the side of the road and felt compelled to stop and assist.

“I was the first person to try and interact with her and spent hours trying to coax her from her hiding spot, so I think I developed a special bond with her. Afterwards we often went to visit her at the clinic. My wife and I have a soft spot for animals and on the second or third visit, we looked at each other and decided that we would adopt her,” he said.

According to Browne, Lucy is adjusting well in her new home and has even bonded with their other two dogs and cat.

“At first she didn’t understand when they tried to play with her, but now they play nicely. She has gained over 10 kilograms and her fur has almost completely grown back,” he said.

“We have been humbled by all the help from the public, from people donating food and money to help with their recovery to those who simply shared their posts on social media to find them homes. We thank you,” he added.

Gunner and Ziggy have been adopted by Shesh Roberts and are living happily on her farm in Pietermaritzburg, while Zoey has found a home with local resident, Tracy Mclelland.
