Stolen goods worth R2-million seized in raid

A tip-off also led to the successful arrest of two suspects at the scene.

OVER R2-million worth of stolen goods were recovered during a raid in Sea Cow Lake yesterday afternoon. Police also managed to arrest two suspects at the scene.

Greenwood Park SAPS swooped in on a warehouse on Peters Road after receiving a tip-off from an informant, said W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the station.

During the raid, police recovered nappies with an estimated value of R800 000, 16 pallets of body lotion, two televisions, shoes and socks, hundreds of crates with children’s toys as well as seven counterfeit GHD hair straighteners.

“Further investigations revealed that the goods were stolen during three separate hijackings in Lenasia south, Pienaars River and Heidelberg, where cases have been opened,” confirmed Audh.

Audh said the two men were charged with possession of stolen as well as counterfeit goods.

The suspects, aged 36 and 52, are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court today.
