uMhlanga mum and daughter caught in armed robbery

One of the suspects pistol-whipped the 55-year-old woman when she claimed that they did have any money on the premises.

AN UMHLANGA family and their domestic worker were left traumatised following a violent house robbery on Trema Road this morning.

Five suspects, two of them armed with pistols, made off with various items, but not before assaulting the matriarch of the family, said Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North Police Station.

According to reports, several men ambushed the 55-year-old woman at around 9.30am while she was conducting her daily prayer outside of her home.

The men dragged her into her house where the other suspects were holding her daughter and domestic worker at gunpoint.

According to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) representatives who were called to the scene, once the suspects had the victims inside the home they demanded to know the safe was.

When the woman denied having any money on the premises one of the suspects pistol-whipped her and scratched her in the face.

Deokaran confirmed that the suspects then fled in a silver VW Caddy with a TV, a cell phone and various items of jewellery.
