Wedding bells ring at the uMhlanga Pier

After weeks of secret planning Somerset Park resident, Eric John Royeppen, finally proposed to the woman of his dreams at the 'whalebone' pier in uMhlanga last night.

HE wrung his hands nervously as he stood at the edge of the ‘whalebone’ pier in uMhlanga, which was beautifully decorated for the special affair, occasionally checking his watch for time.

His life would soon change forever as Eric John Royeppen, a Somerset Park resident, was about to propose to the woman of his dreams.

A few miles away Bhavna Mangroo was called to the secret rendezvous under false pretence. It was going to be a romantic surprise. And the Northglen News was invited to bear witness to this ultimate romantic gesture.

As he waited for her to arrive he gushed saying how he couldn’t picture life without her.

“She is real. I love that she is passionate and kind, and can simply tell you off if she thinks you are wrong. And at the end of the day won’t change herself for anyone,” he said.

The couple met in January, when Bhavna’s aunt, Natasha Ramdheen, introduced them, thinking that they would make the perfect match.

On 14 January the two went on their first date during which they spent some time on the very same pier. It was at that spot that Bhavna said she fell in love with Eric.

“We stood on the corner there,” he said glancing over to the right side of the pier. “And that is where she told me that she loved me,” he added

Just after 7pm, Bhavna finally arrived. He walked over to the car and escorted her to the edge of the pier, reached into his jacket and pulled out the small box from his pocket. Before he knelt down on one knee, he opened the box to reveal its precious contents and then ‘popped’ that very special question, ‘will you marry me?’

And she accepted.

When asked what she loved about her new fiancé Bhavna said, “I love how he always looks at me like I am the only woman he has ever seen. And I love how he is a little shorter than me whenever I wear heels,” she said elated.
