WIN: Tickets to Durban International Jazz Extravaganza

Catch jazz legends, Spyro Gyra and Lee Ritenour, at an event that organisers say is a must-see for lovers of music.

THE mutual love of music is what is going to bring jazz lovers together next month when the Durban International Jazz Extravaganza (IJE) takes place at the Durban ICC.

The line-up consists of Lee Ritenour and Spyro Gyra and will be taking place on Saturday, 12 March. Spokesperson for the extravaganza, Lumka Fihla, said that over the last decade, the US has seen an 11 per cent decrease in jazz album sales. And while there are no numbers to confirm the same for South Africa, at a glance the trends appear to be the same.

“However, IJE is set to revive the love for jazz – educate newbies on this beautiful genre that is a mixture of African and European cultures merged in America, and at the same time bring back that musical connection that jazz purists have always had and appreciated.”

“Durban prides itself in being the republic’s cultural city. With the diverse cultures in it, music becomes one of many tools that we use to bring those cultures together and remind each other that despite social strata, we are connected as one.  Everybody loves music, and the Durban IJE not only connects music lovers, but those who have been yearning and asking for a pure jazz event,” explained Philip Sithole, Durban’s head of Business Support, Tourism and Markets.

General access tickets to the International Jazz Extravaganza are available through Computicket from R500.
