Frylink suspended for punching fellow player

Sunfoil Dolphins all-rounder will face disciplinary hearing after allegedly assaulting teammate in car.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union has moved swiftly to clarify the circumstances surrounding the suspension of all-rounder Robbie Frylinck, who has been placed under a cautionary suspension. Sunfoil Dolphins CEO Pete de Wet has confirmed that Frylinck has been provisionally suspended, and stressed that he would face an internal disciplinary hearing shortly to deal with the matter.

“It is very important to note that this is an internal team matter, and that it still has to be handled by our own disciplinary processes. Robbie is a senior member of our squad who has been a loyal servant of the province for over a decade and we trust that he will be afforded the appropriate space and dignity until the disciplinary process is completed,” said de Wet.

It is alleged that Frylinck was involved in an incident with another Dolphins player following the team’s return to Durban last Sunday from a match played in Cape Town.

Frylinck’s appearance before the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union’s disciplinary committee is to answer to a charge of alleged assault of a fellow player. It is alleged that an argument developed in the car which was transporting the players to the airport after the provincial match they played in ended a day before it’s scheduled finish.

“It is equally important to quash any speculation that this might be in any way linked to the Cricket South Africa probe into match fixing,” he added. “This has absolutely nothing to do with that case.”

De Wet stressed that it was imperative for the dignity of all the players involved to allow the disciplinary process to be completed, and warned against unsubstantiated rumours.

He said that once the internal disciplinary process had been handled and the facts clarified, a full statement would be released.
