Frustrations mount over two-year leak

A Kenville resident says he has been battling for two years to have the leak repaired.

WITH the country’s continued water crisis, 69-year-old Solly Kharodia has expressed outage over a two-year-old leak in Kenville.

The frustrated resident said he has reported the leak on Holborn Road to the municipality several times, but he is yet to see any action.

“There should be someone responsible in the municipality, however, they seem to have no interest,” he said.

Kharodia not only expressed concerns over the wasted water but also pointed out how the seeping water, which seems to be emanating from several sites along the road, has begun to affect the road surface.

“It is a health hazard. The water collects here and turns green. Many elderly residents who live on this road are forced to cross this muck,” added the exasperated resident.

What’s more, Kharodia said the leak also runs down into Henden Road, which makes the already steep road even more treacherous.

“There have been several accidents on this road. And trucks frequent this road. It is just a dangerous combination,” said Kharodia.

eThekwini head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa, said, “All reported cases are being attended to and residents are urged to contact the number they had called to report the case and provide the call centre agent with their reference number so that they can be given an update regarding the status of their complaint and/or query”.

He urged the public to report a fault or log a complaint once and thereafter use their allocated reference number to follow up on the progress of their enquiry.

“The municipality has qualified and dedicated staff whose key mandate is to deliver services to the people of eThekwini,” he added.
