Seven-man gang attacks security guards

The armed gang violently assaulted the guards before fleeing the scene with stolen goods valued at R100 000.

A GANG of seven suspects made off with stolen loot valued at R100 000 after violently attacking two guards at a business premises in Quarry Heights yesterday.

The men allegedly approached one of the guards while he was patrolling the premises at around 3.30am and began assaulting him, said Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park SAPS.

One of the suspects then produced a firearm and pointed it at the victim, instructing him to lie down on his stomach.

“While he was being held at gunpoint, the remaining suspects started to ransack the offices on the site and broke into equipment storage containers,” said Audh.

After a while, two of the suspects then reportedly returned to where the victim was being held at gunpoint and asked him if he had a panic button or firearm on site.

When the guard responded that there were none, the suspects dragged him to a second location where assaulted him again.

A second guard was also assaulted after he walked in on the suspects, said Audh.

The men later fled the scene with various items, ranging from safety boots to computers, with an estimated value of R100 000.
