Sharing the love this February

'Dare to Love Yourself'' with The 31 Club's February fundraiser.

WITH the start of the new year, the selfless women from The 31 Club are at it again – raising funds for various non-profit organisations throughout Durban.

For their first fundraiser, the club will be celebrating the month of love with a ‘Dare to Love Yourself” breakfast networking morning at the Elangeni Hotel on Thursday, 11 February from 8.30am to 11am.

Brett Shuttleworth, sportsman, actor and motivational speaker, will be entertaining the crowds on the day.

“We are hoping not only to raise funds on the day, but also to empower women by teaching them to love their inner selves,” said Lana Titmas, co-chairlady of the club.

“The idea behind the day is also to create networking opportunities for corporate and younger women so that they can share their skills and expertise and collaborate with other women,” added Zogra Cox, the club’s vice-chairlady.

Every year, the club hosts five events to raise funds used to support 50 organisations within the greater Durban area, including the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, CHOC, I Care, Highway Hospice, Durban & Coast SPCA and Open Door Crisis Centre.

Some of the events organised by the club last year included a ‘Bags and Blossoms Spring High Tea’, which raised R71 000, and the annual Christmas-themed Bridge Drive, which garnered an additional R65 000.

The 31 Club is a registered non-profit organisation formed in 1962 by a group of women under the chairmanship of Norma Rattray. The group strives to raise funds for various organisation and charities in KwaZulu-Natal.

As the group consisted of 31 volunteers, the club was named accordingly, and membership remains at a maximum of 31 members who work on a regular voluntary basis.

Tickets to the event cost R300 per person, which includes a delicious breakfast, entertainment and prizes. Contact Zogra on 083 969 3594 or zogracox@hotmail.com.
