Heatwave warning a hoax

The South African Weather Service has confirmed that the heat wave warning circling social media is a hoax.

PEOPLE have been urged to ignore a hoax message circulating social media, claiming that an ‘eminent unprecedented heatwave’ is set to hit the country on Thursday and Friday.

The message supposedly sent the Department of Meteorological Services alleged that temperatures are expected to reach between 40 and 43 degrees.

However, Wisani Maluleke, a weather forecaster at the The South African Weather Service’s KZN forecasting centre at King Shaka International Airport confirmed today that the message is indeed a hoax.

“We are indeed experiencing hot weather in South Africa, but it is not a heat wave as the message claims. There are certain conditions that have to be met in order for a heat wave to be immanent, and this is not the case,” he said.

What’s more Maluleke said they have actually predicted that the temperatures would start to drop by Thursday.
