R150 000 worth of goods recovered after La Lucia break-in

Two people were arrested in the operation between the Durban Flying Squad and a local security company.

TWO people were arrested in Bhambayi township on Sunday afternoon following a break-in at a residential complex in La Lucia. The alleged thieves were found with R150 000 worth of goods. An application on a phone, also stolen in the break-in, was used by members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team and the Durban Flying Squad to track the criminals down.

“Our control room received a call just before 7am from a client in a complex in Moreland Drive, La Lucia. The residents had awoken to find that their home had been broken into while they had been asleep. They also reported feeling quite groggy on waking. It was discovered that bolt cutters had been used to break and force open a window’s burglar guards.

“Two cellphones, a tablet, handbag and camera bag containing an expensive Canon camera and accessories (valued at R150 000) were reported missing. After tracking the phone, the camera and handbag were recovered inside the premises. Various other items were also found – including a laptop. A name was found on the laptop which allowed us to trace the owner, who advised that it had been taken in a housebreaking in Shelly Beach on 15 December,” explained Marshall’s Tyron Powell.

The two people were were handed over to SAPS detectives attending the scene. Investigations are continuing.
