Woman commits suicide from hotel window

Police have established that the woman is an eMdloti resident.

A 64-YEAR-OLD woman has allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor window at an uMhlanga hotel this morning.  According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the tragedy unfolded outside a well-known hotel.

The woman, according to Deokaran, was spotted by one of the cleaners as she opened a window. He said the cleaner shouted for help, but the woman jumped and landed on a concrete deck.

“It is believed she died on impact and she was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics. She allegedly parked her car along Lagoon Drive and then walked up to the sixth floor of the hotel and jumped. We’ve traced her vehicle and have established she is an uMhlanga resident. At this stage we are investigating the case and trying to contact her relatives,” he said.

The tragedy comes just months after a suicide remembrance walk held annually along the uMhlanga promenade by local resident, Joy Chiang, who runs a suicide support organisation.
