Pedestrians robbed at gunpoint on Prospect Hall Road

There have been more than 25 armed muggings since May last year.

TWO pedestrians were asked to take off their shoes and jackets by two suspects in an armed mugging on Prospect Hall Road on Thursday evening. The incident occurred at about 11.15pm near the high school. Since May last year, there have been more than 25 muggings of pedestrians (that Northglen News has reported on) in the Durban North and uMhlanga areas.

“In the latest incident, two locals were walking home when they were approached by two men, one armed with a gun. The armed man pointed his firearm at the pedestrians and told them to hand over their shoes, jackets and cellphones. The suspect then fled in the direction of Riverside Road,” explained Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

In February this year, a pedestrian was left trouserless after a mugging near Gateway. In the most serious incident last week, an uMhlanga resident stopped an attempted kidnapping and robbery of Swedish tourists on Umhlanga Rocks Drive.
