New start for decuplet of pups

"They were all very sick and in a terrible condition with internal and external parasites," said animal activist, Quicha Morgado

ANIMAL activist, Quicha Morgado, was recently alerted to the possible neglect of a mother dog and her litter of puppies on Rinaldo Road in Glenhills. When Morgado (the founder of Project Dog) went to assess the situation, she discovered four adult dogs and a litter of 11 puppies in dire straits. The puppies were malnourished and riddled with parasites, she said.

“They were all very sick and in a terrible condition with internal and external parasites. Blood transfusions had to be administered to save their lives. Sadly, the runt of the litter died,” she said.

Efforts were also made to clean, de-worm, de-flea and vaccinate the pups as well as spay the mother. According to Morgado, the mother was returned to her owners along with a month’s worth of food.

However, the search has begun to find new homes for the litter. To date, she has already homed four of the tiny eight-week-old pups.

“They are very playful and will grow into medium-sized dogs,” she said. Morgado has also appealed to the community to also assist with food donations for the adult dogs.

Project Dog is a non-profit organisation run by a small and dedicated group of people who are passionate about the rights of all animals. The team is committed to giving every dog the opportunity for a healthy and happy life. Contact Quicha on 083 272 7201.
