Twitter ‘secretly’ experiments with emojis

A Twitter user is said to have discovered the hidden emoji function in a developer build of the platform.

THE secret is out. Twitter is reportedly experimenting with more emoji reactions. This comes after Facebook, Twitter’s biggest competitor, announced that it was experimenting with an ’empathy’ button.

Currently, both social media pages only allow their users to ‘like’ posts.

Earlier this month, Twitter users were outraged when the social media platform changed their famous ‘favourite’ feature with a star emoji to a ‘like’ feature with a heart. Users have accused the platform of copying Facebook.

If the new feature, said to be in the testing phase, is released, it would enable tweeps to express a broader range of emotions to their tweet responses. Twitter user @_Ninji is said to have discovered the emojis hidden in a developer build of the social network’s application for iPhones.

The user caught these emojis via screeshots, although it is still not clear from the shots how the feature works. But the shots do suggest that in addition to the ‘heart’, users will be able to use a frown, grimace and party-goer emoji.
