Social crime prevention event to unite against crime

Emergency services from across the city will be hosting a crime prevention event to educate the public in Parkhill.

NO one ever hopes to find themselves in an accident, caught in a fire or a victim of crime. But these horrific incidents happen on a daily basis. So, who do we call when we find ourselves in one of these situations? The brave men and women of the city’s emergency services.

These unsung heroes risk their lives on a daily basis to save and protect the lives of the public. To raise awareness and celebrate these individuals, the Greenwood Park SAPS will be hosting a social crime prevention initiative at the Parkhill Grounds (between Blackburn and Park Roads) on 28 November from 9am to 3pm.

W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the station, added that the event was also aimed at facilitating the fight against crime.

“Police have received tremendous support from private security companies, neighbourhood watches and the community and we hope to showcase and celebrate those partnerships on the day,” he said

Some of the services that will be present at the event include Metro Police, the Durban Fire Department, ADT, Enforce, Marshall Security, Blue Security, Netcare 911, the Durban Flying Squad and the Durban North/ Umhlanga Crisis Team.

The public will be treated to some extraction and foam displays from the fire department, SAPS snake patrols and canine tackle displays from local security companies. What’s more, the public can also expect to receive some crime and safety education.

“All the services will be able to give the public advice and safety tips. The SAPS will also cover crime hotspots and criminal tactics,” added Audh.

Other fun activities include face painting and jumping castles. Contact Audh on 031 571 6521.
