Gatecrashers target local businesses

Two businesses were targeted by a gang in the north Durban area.

A BRAZEN gang of robbers, driving a silver Hyundai, gatecrashed a business premises in Springfield Park on Saturday. According to Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, the four men derailed the front driveway gate of a property in Intersite Avenue at 5.17am.

“The gang forced open the front door and fled with a laptop,” he said.

Jackson said the gang then proceeded to a business premises in the same road where they forced open a sliding door and were seen on CCTV camera footage fleeing with two taxi packs of eggs at 5.24am.

Jackson said gatecrashers had also derailed the gate of a residential property in Candy Tuft Grove in Glen Anil on Thursday night last week, although it was unclear what had been stolen, while in a second incident a business was burgled in Cypress Place in Glen Anil.

Jackson urged residents and business owners to be vigilant and to report any suspicious vehicles or loiterers to the police or to their security company.

“Simply by being security conscious, residents and business owners can reduce the risk of becoming the next victim as criminals will get the message that the risk of being caught is high because they have been noticed, even while staking out the suburb for opportunities. They will then likely move on to an area they perceive as lower risk,” he said.
