Gore aims for second Tinman win

Local triathlete looking forward to upcoming Tinman race.

UMHLANGA resident, Glen Gore, will be lining up at this coming weekend’s (15 November) final event of the Tinman Triathlon Series. The series finale takes place at the Suncoast Casino’s Sun Deck area and will attract triathletes from all around the country as they compete over a series of events on offer.

Gore, who won the last series event in October, will be gunning for his second win of the series, having placed third twice previously. Not to be outdone, Brad Venter and Donovan van Gelder will be hounding Gore to take the top podium spot as they too have a win each under their belts heading into the final event of four races.

“The series caters for triathletes of all ages, abilities and fitness levels. The event gets underway with a 10km run along the promenade. Triathletes can then choose from three events – the rookie triathlon, which comprises a 200m swim, 5km cycle and 2.5km run, which is aimed at the novice multi-sporter and junior triathletes.

The next event on the menu is the sprint race, which involves a 500m short sea swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

“This event attracts the bulk of the field as it’s a distance that is easily manageable for those weekend warriors who want to give the sport of triathlon a bash. The challenge event (1km swim/30km cycle/10km run) is aimed at the fitter triathletes and newcomers looking to get in a race that is flat and fast. Road and mountain bikes are encouraged,” he said.

Gore said he hoped the event will attract the biggest field yet and is calling on all Durban residents and sporting fanatics to give the final series event a go.
