Important to know, licence renewals

An amendment to the National Road Traffic act now requires that the public provide proof of residence when applying and renewing motor vehicle or driver's licences.

MOTORISTS are warned of a new regulation to keep in mind when they need to apply for or renew their motor vehicle and driving licences.

According to Kwanele Ncalane, spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department, an amendment to the National Road Traffic act now requires motorists to provide proof of residence to complete the motor vehicle or driving licence transactions. This came into effect on Monday, 2 November.

This means the public needs to take along their ID, copy of ID and proof of residence, such as a municipal utility bill, telephone account or retail store account, which is not older than three months, for verification.
