Flora fundis celebrate 60th anniversary

"Not only is it a great way for people to meet others with a similar interest, but it is also a great way to make friends," said Wendy Clack, president of the Durban North Garden Club.

THE Durban North Garden Club recently celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Fairway Guest House in Durban North. The club’s 35 members met for a breakfast brunch to celebrate the auspicious moment for one of the oldest garden clubs in the Durban North area.

Dawn Jacklin and Sandy Grant, two of the oldest members, reminisced about the early days of the club while former president, Margie Voogt, spoke about the floral art side of the organisation.

The aim of the club, said its current president, Wendy Clack, is to inspire and unite people who are passionate about gardening and plants.

“Not only is it a great way for people to meet others with a similar interest, but it is also a great way to make friends. Gardening is also very therapeutic. We try to cover all aspects of gardening, from tips and ideas to common issues and concerns,” said Clack.

Informative meetings are held once a month at the St Martin’s Church hall, where guest speakers, workshops and demonstrations educate and enthuse members. On alternative months, the members also travel to various places of interest to gardeners, such as nurseries and private gardens.

Clack urged anyone with green fingers and passion for flora to join the club.
