1 dead, 17 injured in N2 crash

It is believed that a blown tyre caused the accident that left one person dead and 17 injured.

A MAN believed to be in his thirties died while 17 were injured when a minibus taxi over turned on the N2 south-bound, near Sunningdale, this evening.

‘Paramedics arrived on scene to find absolute mayhem as the injured tried to free themselves from the overturned vehicle,” said Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical.

The deceased was reportedly ejected from his vehicle during the collision, and was later declared dead at the scene.

“Seventeen others were treated and stabilized on scene before being taken through to various hospitals for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to moderate in severity,” added Van Reenen.

It is unclear what caused the accident, said Van Reenen, but eye wintesses have alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre blew. Authorities were on scene and will investigate the incident.
